EU 6th Framework Programme

The Sixth Framework Programme (FP6) is the main source of European research financing. Its main objective is to raise the level of European economy competitiveness and strengthen the academia-industry co-operation.

The Programme runs from 2002 to 2006 and has a budget of 17.5 billion Euro. FP6 funds seven Thematic Priority (TP) areas: Life sciences, genomics and biotechnology for health; Information society technologies; Nanotechnology and nanosciences, knowledgebased multifunctional materials and new production process and devices; Aeronautics and space; Food quality and safety; Sustainable development, global change and ecosystems; Citizens and governance in a knowledge-based society.

Any legal entity in Europe can take part: industry, research organizations and universities. Small and Medium Sized Enterprises are especially encouraged to participate in FP6.
